Welcome to the Toba Batak Wikipedia, and congratulations on this great achievement! It's all of your hard work that has led to this official launch of the Toba Batak Wikipedia – thank you very much, it is a delight to see yet another new language edition of Wikipedia launch!

All content has been imported here from the Incubator, so you can safely start editing this wiki instead.

Now, since this wiki is brand new, there are some things you should be aware of:

• The default setting in Wikimedia is that a user account has to be at least 4 days old before that user can move pages. Since this wiki is currently less than 4 days old, that means that your accounts are technically also less than 4 days old, so you are not able to move any pages yet. In a day or two, though, that should be possible.
• There are no administrators here yet. I and the other new wiki importers are able to do some administrator tasks in the mean time (such as deleting pages and editing MediaWiki pages), so feel free to ask us if you need any help with that. You can also ask the Stemards on Meta.
• I would suggest starting a Village Pump page (if one doesn't exist already) to have a place on-wiki to make decisions. That would also be a good place to hold administrator elections.

If you need any help with anything, please feel free to ask me any time. I'm not able to fix everything myself, but I'm usually good at finding the people who can.

Based on the writing system of Surat Batak, the correct method to write "ilik" (lizard in English) within the formula as is written below:

"i (ina ni Surat) + la + i (diacritic) + pangolat or virama".

That's why, I have been trying to write it correctly on this digital platform.

However I realise that there is a problem technical which is impacted to the case that you have mentioned before. Hopefully,there will a advance technology that support the Surat Batak on digital.

Hi Gazarta,

The technology is already here. If you write i + la + i + ka + pangolat (phonetic order), it will display as i + la + ka + i + pangolat (visual order). Uli Kozok explains this in his Unicode proposal.

In the protected article Wikipedia:Guritan na tarpillit/7 2026, the letters were written in visual order, so they do not display correctly.

There might be problems on WP, depending on your browser. (On my Firefox, ᯤᯞᯪᯂ᯲ does not display correctly, but in my Falkon browser it does.) If you paste ᯤᯞᯪᯂ᯲ into a word-processor and set the font to Noto Sans Batak (or several other fonts), then it should display correctly. Kwamikagami (manghatai) 17:24, 24 April 2026 (WIB)

BTW, I think I've cleaned up all the articles that link to the script templates. I've done the same on Indonesian WP. However, over there, while some of the surat batak looks well written, as if the author knew the language or orthography, a lot of it looks like transliteration from Latin script by someone who didn't know what they were doing.
